The detail of the painting `Independence or Death` (1888), by Pedro Américo, predominates in pad printing. The cut of the painting in the upper part alludes to the lighting of the sun – the dawn of freedom – and, in the lower part, there is a composition with a saber typical of the personal guard of D. Pedro I, which proves to be the powerful tool of the resounding cry. The text `Independência ou Morte!`” (Independence or Death!) is part of what D. Pedro I uttered on the banks of the Ipiranga Creek when declaring his Independence. The third phrase of the Independence Hymn `JÁ RAIOU A LIBERDADE NO HORIZONTE DO BRASIL` (freedom has rained on Brazil`s horizon)accompanies the lower edge. |
